A Future in Temp work

Have you ever considered a career in temporary work ? Many individuals think of temporary employment as "fill-in" or "casual" work while they search for full-time permanent positions. Contrary to popular belief, many people choose to work as "Career Temps" and genuinely enjoy this line of work.

I've worked as an agency recruiter for over 25 years and have had many encounters with career temporaries. People who hold this position have a variety of educational backgrounds and skill sets. They value the freedom to work when it is convenient for them.

These individuals are frequently in high demand and very skilled in their field. An Executive Assistant (EA) Career Temp, for instance, is highly valued because they have a variety of skills and knowledge to offer and can enter a setting and make an immediate impact. Receptionists, team administrators, project coordinators, personal assistants, and accounting support roles all fall under this category as well.

No Shortage of Work

Each Career Temp has knowledge and skills that are in high demand and add value right away. Many of the Career Temps I work with are hardly ever unemployed; in fact, some of them need to schedule a vacation or break during the year because they frequently switch between temporary assignments. The length of the assignment can vary, and clients frequently adjust their schedules to fit a particular Career Temp's availability in order to hire them.

Career Temps frequently receive requests to return from former employers who are clients. Given that the temporary employee and the client have a good working relationship already, both parties benefit from having a productive temporary employee.

Career Temps frequently have an exclusive working relationship with a recruiting firm. This fosters a productive working relationship between the Career Temp and agency recruiter and helps manage availability and workload.

Benefits of Being a Career Temp

There are many benefits to being a Career Temp. Some of these include:

Food for Thought

So, did I succeed in influencing your opinion of working as a temp as a career? I understand that not everyone is a good fit for a career temp. But in my opinion, if you have a lot of expertise and experience, you can support yourself to work in this way and enjoy a lot of professional fulfillment.
